The Vegetarian by Han Kang has awarded the 2016 Man Booker International Prize. The novel was translated into English by Deborah Smith and published by Portobello Books. The author and translator are each awarded a prize of £25,000 as well as a trophy.
If you haven’t read this novel yet you absolutely should. It’s amazing. If you need further convincing you can read excerpts in Words Without Borders and The White Review. And though many of the reviews of the book are reductionist to the point of being silly, there is an excellent review in Music and Literature here.

Teffi
In The New York Times, Masha Gessen reviews Memories: From Moscow to the Black Sea by Russian emigre writer Teffi. The book of stories was translated by Robert and Elizabeth Chandler, Anne Marie Jackson and Irina Steinberg.
Teffi’s writing has been long neglected, first in her native language and of course in English translation. This book remedies that situation somewhat.
