New Literature from Europe 2016

The 13th annual New Literature from Europe Festival kicks off this week in New York City, running from Dec 7 – 10 and featuring leading European authors, translators, editors for a varied program of events.

The recently published Memoirs of a Polar Bear will be presented by its writer and translator (from the German) respectively Yoko Tawada and Susan Bernofsky in a panel on the novel and the Japanese Tawada will also appear on a panel titled From One Language To Another with Jhumpa Lahiri (who switched from writing in English to Italian) and Elena Alexieva (Bulgaria) and a number of translators.

Other writers attending this year’s festival include Mihkel Mutt (Estonia), Szczepan Twardoch (Poland), Matéi Visniec (Romania), Krisztina Tóth (Hungary) and Colin Barrett (Ireland) among others. Salman Rushdie is the keynote presenter
