
With Prague Book World coming up a series of events are being held in conjunction with the English-language publication of J.R. Pick’s Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, a tragicomic novel of a thirteen-year-old Czech boy sent to the Terezín ghetto.
On Thursday, May 10th at 6:30 pm, Karolinum Press and The Bubny Memorial of Silence are holding a book launch. In attendance will be the author’s sister Zuzana Justman and the book’s translator Alex Zucker, while David Vaughn will be moderating the evening.
Then on Friday, May 11th at 6pm there will be a vernissage at Kampus Hybernská of Jiří Grus’s exhibition “Illustrating the Classics”, featuring Jiří Grus, Stanislava Fedrová and Pavel Kořínek. This will be followed at 7pm by a discussion with a pair of translators of classic and contemporary Czech literature together with Jantar Publishing in a discussion entitled “Exporting Czech Literature: a discussion on translation.” The translators involved are the aforementioned Alex Zucker and David Short, with David Vaughn moderating once again.
