Absinthe: Spotlight on Bulgaria

The all-Bulgarian issue of Absinthe will be published in early May. The issue (#17) features writing by Georgi Gospodinov, Milen Ruskov, Emilia Dvoryanova, Vladislav Todorov, Krassimir Damianov, Kristin Dimitrova, Virginia Zaharieva, Vladimir Zarev, Yanitza Radeva, Ivan Dimitrov, Theodora Dimova, Zdravka Evtimova, Dimiter Kenarov, Maria Doneva, Niki Boikov and Stefan Ivanov. There will also be an eight page portfolio of art by Stela Vasileva and Pravdoliub Ivanov.

For the issue I’ve written about three film adaptations of three very different works of literature – Zift by Vladislav Todorov, The World is Big and Salvation Lurks Around the Corner by Iliya Troyanov and an animated adaptation of Kurt Schwitters’ Dadaist love poem Anna Blume.

I will also have a profile of director Yassen Grigorov that will appear on Absinthe’s blog, where you can already see previews of the upcoming issue. The first preview went up April 18 and contains a brief and very erotic selection from the novel Nine Rabbits by Virginia Zaharieva, translated by Angela Rodel.

You can get ahead of the proverbial curve and pre-order the issue with a discount
