“Shadow Play” by Slovak writer Peter Karpinský is the first story I brought to Prague literary journal B O D Y as a new contributing editor. The story of a translator of a German poet that reveals itself to be much more than that, is part of Karpinský’s 2010 Anasoft-nominated collection The Holy Non-Assumption. The Anasoft litera is Slovakia’s biggest literary prize. The short story was translated by Charles Sabatos, who translated Pavel Vilikovský’s Ever Green Is …: Selected Prose for Northwestern’s Unbound Europe series among other work.
For more on Karpinský go to his Anasoft nomination page.
There will be a lot more writing in translation from Central and Eastern Europe, as well as other parts of Europe, coming to B O D Y in the weeks and months ahead, so keep an eye out for it.
