The inaugural Sofia International Literary Festival is underway in the Bulgarian capital, comprising literary participants from Bulgaria and Balkan countries from December 10 – 15. Among the many writers in attendance are Bulgaria’s Georgi Gospodinov, Kristin Dimitrova, Miroslav Penkov and Milen Ruskov; Serbia’s Vladimir Arsenijević, Macedonia’s Goce Smilevski, Croatia’s Ante Tomić and Romania’s Dan Lungu among many others.
There is prose, poetry, music, photography and discussions on subjects such as “Writers and the Balkans Protests” and “Translatability and Untranslatability in Balkan Literature”. Of course, it’s their first year so mistakes are to be expected, even massive ones such as not inviting me (incidentally, even had I been invited I would have regretfully declined as I’m extremely busy. Just after posting this I’m planning to take a nap and then I’ll have lunch, so I have no idea where I could possibly fit in the time for a literary festival).
If you can read Bulgarian you can read about the festival here
