The German-language literature festival, the Festival Neue Literatur, is taking place in New York City from Feb 19 – 22 with six writers from Austria, Germany, and Switzerland and a theme of Love and Money.
Among the featured authors you can see Swiss writer Jonas Lüscher, whose novel Barbarian Spring in an English translation by Peter Lewis is being published by Haus Publishing in March. You will be able to read an excerpt of his novel in B O D Y very soon.
Then there’s Ukrainian writer Marjana Gaponenko, who started writing in German at 16 years old. Her novel Who is Martha?, translated by Arabella Spencer, was published by New Vessel Press.
The other writers are Monique Schwitter, Navid Kermani, Anna Weidenholzer and Matthias Nawrat and there will be translators such as Susan Bernofsky and publishers Ross Ufberg and Chad Post among others on panels as well.
The events have some pretty good titles, such as “Love—It’s Complicated” (Editorial note: true enough) and “Money Changes Everything” (Editorial note: I’ve heard this is also true)
