Like Kafka, Weiner never lived to see his writing appreciated, this novel wasn’t published till decades after his death. Unlike Kafka, of course, he wrote in Czech and lived in Paris, which is as opposite from living with your parents as was possible during that period in history. The book is a linguistic feast and the translation a tour de force.
